What does your typical day look like?
I am up getting myself and my girls ready for the day – breakfast, making lunches and getting them on the bus. I head into work to sit at a desk from 9-5 – taking a much needed lunch break to head to the gym. After work, I race home to grab one or both of the girls to head to swimming lessons or Ringette practice – come home – eat – bedtime routine and off to bed myself to start it all again the next day.
Favourite way to spend a Friday night?
No cooking, no plans, no bedtimes….family time, movies, popcorn and cuddling on the couch.
When did you start working out and why?
I have always worked out in one way or another, mainly to battle that number on the scale. As I have gotten older it’s become more of how I feel and look and not what that number is telling me how I should feel about myself. I am not saying I don’t have my moments but I know that number doesn’t define who I am . Having my daughter ask me why my legs are bigger…is that because you are so strong with muscles? You betcha! I want to be the best role model I can be.
Why Menesetung CrossFit?
To be honest, it’s Ben. He gets me and knows when to push and when to wait for me to push myself. He has a way of always knowing what to say so I get it and remember that I am not weak and not to give up on myself. I started back last December still recovering from shoulder surgery and having limited mobility. We worked around it to strengthen everything else while gaining more and more mobility back. I am now 100% and pushing more weight overhead than ever before. At the end of the day I show up and trust the process.
What’s your favourite thing about working out?
That it is MY time. I leave work and turn my brain off and just do something for me. I know it doesn’t take away from any family time or something else I should be doing. It’s 100% for me.
What’s your favourite type of workout?
Running….lol just kidding. Lifting anything heavy. Deadlifts are my thing. I love seeing if I can push that weight up a little more each time.
Tell us one thing most people don’t know about you.
I love to journal, using fun coloured pens and stickers. Something about getting my feelings or experiences out on paper is very therapeutic.
And for our own selfish interest… any good recommendations for books or movies?
Jen Lancaster is a good read….very funny, light and real. Major League is one of my all-time favorite movies.
